Recalling Fire Safety Measures for a Safer Workplace

As the country observed National Fire Service Day on 14th April 2022, the topic of fire protection in NYC was revisited in many places. In all fairness, as long as there is optimal fire safety maintained across all residential and commercial buildings, not everyone sees the point in worrying about the scary issue of “fire safety”. However, fire safety is just as important to be discussed and assessed at the workplace as it is to educate and train people to spring into action in the event of a fire.

Fire safety should never be treated as an omnipresent accessory in reducing the risk of injury and damage to the property during a fire. Instead, its importance should be revisited and evaluated as multiple steps and levels as possible. Some of the ways to do so is developing and implementing fire safety protocols in the workplace as it will bring advantages like:

·        Reduced risks to life and property;

·        Prevent financial losses;

·        Protection against state penalties;

·        Safeguarding the employees and customers alike.

How Can Fire Safety in the Workplace Be Implemented?

A workplace is often the perfect fueling ground for fire, yet the occupants are often the most unprepared for such events. Due to the huge number of materials that make up the ingredients to ignite a fire, it is not only necessary but rather life-saving to put safety features in place. Therefore, open discussion and awareness must be conducted regarding fire safety so as to foster an understanding of fire foods, i.e., heat, fuel, and oxygen. Once the employees are educated on these vital fire hazards, any discrepancies will become evident to the naked eye and will be much more easily handled as per protocol.

The first step in implementing a fire prevention plan is to educate the occupants of a commercial building. This includes the employees, janitorial staff, and everyone. Next comes the devising of a fire prevention plan. This plan will help employees understand their role in the fire suppression plan for the building and identify combustible materials and the value of fire extinguishers in fire suppression as per the NFPA and OSHA regulation and training requirements. So, if you notice a loophole in your fire safety measures, seek out to call in the professionals for quality fire protection equipment and employee training!
